Fruits/Vegetable Serving (NYS Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System-BRFSS)

The BRFSS is a telephone based survey that collects information on self-reported health related behaviors. All data relates to adults 18 years of age or older. Specifically, the indicator in this section is the proportion of respondents who reported eating 5 or more fruits and/or vegetables per day.

Over/Underweight and Anemia in Children (Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System-PedNSS, WIC program)

This system in the Division of Nutrition provides nutrition related information on low income infants and children enrolled in the WIC program. Information for children served by the WIC program represents the first quarter of each calendar year. Underweight includes children with weights falling below the 5th percentile based on the 2000 CDC growth chart percentiles for weight-for length for children under 2 years and a body mass index (BMI)-for-age for children 2 years and older. Overweight includes children with weights that are greater than or equal to the 95th percentile (weight-for-stature curve, weight-for-length curve for infants) based on the 2000 CDC growth chart percentiles for BMI-for-age.
