Expanded Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System
Local level need for risk factor data led to the development of the Expanded Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (Expanded BRFSS). This random digit dialed adult telephone survey was conducted to assess modifiable risk behaviors and other factors contributing to the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the population. The information from Expanded BRFSS is intended for use by local health departments and others for needs assessment, health program planning and evaluation, policy formulation, and monitoring progress toward established health goals and objectives.
